Federal Government Announces Investment in Suffield Solar Energy Project
The federal government is providing funding for a solar project which will be constructed near Suffield. Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Natural Resources, announced $15,3 million in funding over two years for the Suffield Solar Project. The project is owned and developed by Canadian Solar a subsidiary of Suffield Solar LP. The project will be located approximately 10 kilometres northwest of the hamlet and built on 202 acres of land.
The company is using new bifacial panels for the project, which are able to capture energy on both sides of the solar panel while tracking the daily trajectory of the sun. Approximately 250 people will be employed during construction. Once operational, the project will create 23 megawatts of power and will be capable of powering approximately 7,400 households annually.
