Chamber Focus on Reconciliation Begins with a Mindset of Opportunity

This past week the federal government announced up to $6 million in funding to help communities in British Columbia and Alberta increase participation in energy projects. While this is a positive step in encouraging participation in the greater economy the chamber network is pushing for bold action when it comes to Lessons in Reconciliation. The mindset needed to make a real difference is based on the notion that reconciliation is an opportunity, not an obligation.

Despite repeated requests of the federal government to be part of the reconciliation discussion, the business community has been by-and-large excluded. This unfortunate reality is why the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) is seeking to demonstrate to the federal government that businesses and Indigenous peoples are often way ahead of them in reconciliation. On June 19, the CCC sat down with business and Indigenous leaders in Thunder Bay to hear what they had to say regarding reconciliation, what it means to them, their communities and their businesses.
