Provincial Government Removes Barriers to Interprovincial Trade
The provincial government announced that it is removing more barriers that impede trade between the provinces. In July, the province eliminated 13 exceptions in the Canada Free Trade Agreement (CFTA). Removing these exceptions makes ensures that Alberta has the lowest amount of exceptions of any province or territory in the country. The eliminated exceptions deal in areas such as the energy sector, alcohol and the sale of public lands.
The chamber network has advocated on this issue encouraging the federal government and provincial governments to support domestic trade in the same way that they support international trade. Our policy Addressing Barriers to Interprovincial Trade was adopted last year. This issue also features prominently in both our provincial and national Vote Prosperity campaigns.
