Greater Role for Licensed Practical Nurses in Health Care Delivery
The Government of Alberta announced amendments to the licensed nurses profession regulation to expand the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) in five key areas, including administering blood or blood products. In addition, LPN's will be able to dispense certain drugs based on prescriber's instructions, provide ultrasound for bedside nursing assessments, administer intravenous nutrition and administer medication by an invasive procedure, such as a central venous line.
