Supports for Business

Applications For Expanded Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) Available Starting Friday

Today the government announced that beginning on Friday, businesses will be able to apply for the CEBA under the expanded criteria to allow more businesses to qualify. The CEBA is available through your primary financial institution. 

To qualify under the expanded eligibility rules, CEBA applicants with payroll lower than $20,000 will need: 

  • A business operating account at a participating financial institution;
  • A Canada Revenue Agency business number;
  • A 2018 or 2019 tax return; and  
  • Eligible non-deferrable expenses of between $40,000 and $1.5 million.

Work Integrated Learning Opportunities

Riipen has partnered with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) to deliver 12,000 new work-integrated learning experiences across Canada by March 2022. Young Canadians face many difficulties as they transition from school to work and these have only intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic. Riipen and BHER will help alleviate these difficulties by increasing access to work-integrated learning among students, regions and employers. More information

Community Supports and Resources

Canada’s Ongoing Humanitarian Efforts in Response to COVID-19 Pandemic

Today, the government announced that in response to a request from the United Nations (UN), the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) will provide airlift support to transport urgently needed medical and humanitarian supplies. The CAF will transport these supplies to and from distribution hubs in Africa, Europe and the Middle East on behalf of the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization. As needs continue to evolve, the CAF will be flexible in its response. More information

Motor vehicle services unavailable June 19-22

The Motor Vehicles System (MOVES) that tracks all driver and vehicle information in the province is being updated to continue serving Albertans. To complete the update, the system must shut down for four days. The system will be unavailable from June 18 at 9 p.m. through June 22. The system will be back in operation by 8 a.m. June 23. During the shutdown, Albertans will be unable to access all motor vehicle services, including:

  • Knowledge tests, road tests and road test bookings
  • Vehicle registrations and renewals
  • Driver’s licence suspension reinstatements
  • Driver’s licence and ID card services (including new applications, renewals, temporary licences, exchanges, duplicates and reclassifications)
  • Driver’s abstracts, searches, in-transit permits, etc.

Canadian Chamber Welcomes WTO Ottawa Group Progress And Calls For Action On Distortive Industrial Subsidies

Canada’s economic recovery after COVID-19 relies on participation in global supply chains. This includes sourcing critical products for consumers and being able to export abroad. Core to achieving these objectives is the World Trade Organization. We welcome the federal government's continued efforts to use the Ottawa Group as a platform for like-minded countries to make progress at the WTO. That said, as they set their priorities, tackling trade-distorting subsidies must be top of mind. Read the press release
