Water Test Results Show No Asbestos Fibres in Medicine Hat Water System
There are no detectable levels of asbestos in Medicine Hat’s drinking water according to test results from ALS Laboratory Group in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A recent episode of CTV network’s W5 program focused on the use of asbestos-cement (A-C) pipe in water distribution systems across Canada. Contributors claimed a potential public health issue if asbestos fibres from A-C pipe enter the water stream and were ingested. Information related to Medicine Hat’s water distribution system was included in the episode.

Mental Health Week
This week is Mental Health Week, a time to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and encourage Canadians to prioritize their mental well-being – because mental health is health. Just like our physical health, we all have to take care of our mental health, too.
This year’s theme “My Story” is about sharing stories and experiences with each other, and by doing that we can all make a difference and make sure no one has to fight their battle alone. Together, we can build a healthier future for all Canadians.
Check out the resources through the Wellness Together Canada portal, which provides 24-hour, free, and confidential mental health and substance use resources to all Canadians, in over 200 languages. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call Talk Suicide Canada at 1-833-456-4566 – lines are open 24/7/365. Additional resources can also be accessed through the Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Southeast Region: https://mentalwellnessmatters.ca/ and through our various health and wellness members of the Chamber through our business directory.
Advocacy in Action
Getting Involved with Strong Towns in Medicine Hat
Last week, Strong Towns released a new way to participate in the Community Action Lab. A Participation Journey is now available to both the Leadership Team and the general public.
From Strong Towns:
"we have taken the course materials and learning path that were prepared for the Medicine Hat Action Team and reworked them for the general public. This information is available now in a self-guided format. It is there for anyone to access.
As the year proceeds, every two to three weeks, a new session of materials will be added to the site. The topics we cover and the materials we share will still be determined by our coaching sessions with the Action Team, but now everyone can follow along."
Access the Strong Towns lessons here and sign up for the next Community Event on June 13th here.
