Hill Road SE closed this summer for road improvements
Starting Tuesday, July 4, Hill Road SE will be closed for road improvements. The project is expected to conclude at the end of August, depending on weather and unforeseen circumstances. The Hill Road rehabilitation will include geometric improvements to enhance traffic safety, new curb and gutter, sidewalks and asphalt.
Through July and August, drivers will not be able to access Hill Road SE from South Railway Street SE and will detour around the construction area to Fifth Street SE. Sidewalks and trails along Hill Road SE, including the trail that crosses Hill Road SE, will be closed to pedestrians during the road closure. Refer to the map for more information.

Strong year-end positions Alberta for stability
A solid end to 2022-23 secures Alberta’s long-term financial outlook and provides stability against future economic uncertainty.
Alberta ended the fiscal year with an $11.6-billion surplus, exceeding the Budget 2022 projected surplus by $11.1 billion. In 2022-23, the province paid down $13.3 billion in debt, eliminating an estimated $260 million in debt servicing costs annually and reducing the overall debt burden on Albertans.

Transport companies struggle to hire new drivers due to rising insurance costs
High insurance costs are causing problems on all sides of the transport industry. Local companies say they can’t afford to hire new truck drivers due to high insurance costs. Independent drivers meanwhile say they’re struggling to afford the rising cost of insuring their trucks. It’s not only small transportation companies that are dealing with sky-high insurance costs. It’s also independent drivers.

Security Infrastructure program launches call for applications
Places of worship and other community organizations can now apply for funding under this year's Security Infrastructure Program (SIP) Call for Applications. The government of Canada is dedicating $5 million annually to the SIP to help protect communities from hate-motivated crime.
Organizations can apply for funding until August 31, 2023.

Fill Up On Funding
More support for low-income students
Alberta’s government is increasing the Alberta Student Grant to make post-secondary education more affordable for more than 20,000 students and their families. Since its creation in 2020, the Alberta Student Grant has helped reduce financial barriers for low-income students so they can focus on their education.
Effective immediately, eligible Alberta Student Grant recipients for the 2023-24 academic year will receive up to $5,100 in non-repayable funding support. Monthly support payments will rise from $250 to $425 per month, an increase from the 2022-23 academic year.

You may be eligible for a physician retention grant worth up to $120,000 if you RESIDE in rural Alberta.
The Rural Education Supplement and Integrated Doctor Experience (RESIDE) program lets you go where your diverse skill set is most needed, enabling you to work within your full scope of practice in a rural Alberta community.
