Promoting Alberta's energy in Japan
Minister of Energy and Minerals Brian Jean will be advocating for Alberta's future as a global leader in energy exports at the 2024 Japan Energy Summit and Exhibition in Tokyo.
This year's Summit and Exhibition runs from June 3-5 and will serve as a showcase for innovative ideas and technologies to foster cross-border collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region, energy security and the transition to decarbonised energy ecosystems. The 2024 event will focus on Japan's current and future energy mix from natural gas to hydrogen, ammonia and renewables.

Investing in the future of apprenticeships at NAIT
Alberta's government is investing $43 million to plan the Advanced Skills Centre at NAIT, training an additional 4,200 apprentices yearly. The ASC will deliver the most comprehensive, leading-edge apprenticeship and technology-based education in the world, focused on training in four key sectors: construction, transportation, manufacturing, and energy.

Highway 3 twinning has begun
Construction is underway on the twinning of Highway 3, between Taber and Burdett, kicking off a multi-year initiative to twin the highway from the B.C. border to Medicine Hat.
The growng agri-business and the continued development and expansion of agri-food processing plants has led to safety concerns regarding increased traffic volumes and congestion on Highway 3. Twinning reduces congestion and adds an extra layer of safety for all users, virtually eliminating the risk of head on collisions, giving travelers peace of mind on their journey.

Canadian Chamber of Commerce expresses concern over potential rail strike
Their statement regarding the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference's announcement that workers at CN and CPKC have voted to authorize strikes.
"The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is concerned with today's announcement from the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference that workers at CN and CPKC have voted to authorize strikes. The importance of our Class 1 railways to the Canadian economy and our ability to move goods, both domestically and internationally, cannot be understated."

On Tuesday, April 30, during the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance's clause-by-clause study of Bill C-59, significant amendments to the Competition Act were adopted without warning and without consultation of the businesses of all sizes that will be affected.

We invite you to a follow-up roundtable on June 20, from 4:00-6:00 pm, right before Chuckwagons.
The goal of the meeting would be to review the 'What We Heard' document from February 21 and review some of our policy recommendations that are set to expire this year unless they are updated and renewed. We will also look at our existing policies and see what gaps need to be addressed.
