City to Host “No Stone Left Alone” Ceremony

The City of Medicine Hat invites the public to attend Hillside Cemetery on Monday, November 4, from 10 am to 12 pm to participate in the ‘No Stone Left Alone’ ceremony.

‘No Stone Left Alone’ honours the sacrifice and service of Canada’s military. Every year, groups of students gather to commemorate the sacrifices of our military by laying wreaths and placing poppies on the headstones of all the veterans who are laid to rest in cemeteries across the country. The ceremony helps to educate children and teens about our past conflicts to create knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Canada’s fallen.

The idea of ‘No Stone Left Alone’ began in 2011 by Maureen G. Bianchini-Purvis, who made it her mission to ensure every solider would have a poppy placed in their honour, and that cemeteries resemble Flanders Field, where poppies grow ‘row on row’.

The City of Medicine Hat is privileged to host this solemn ceremony. Organizers have more than 700 confirmed attendees, including 600 students and 160 dignitaries, military personnel, musicians and guests.

Please be advised as part of the ceremony there will be processionals up and down the main roads within the cemetery grounds.

Additionally, please watch for buses and vehicles entering and exiting the cemetery grounds onto Highway 3.
