- The total period that participants will be able to stay will increase from 2 to 3 years.
Consumer Protection Alert: Asphalt Paving Fraud
The Consumer Investigations Unit is warning Albertans about unscrupulous asphalt paving companies currently travelling throughout Alberta that commonly target residential, commercial, and farming residents in small towns and rural communities.
These paving companies often approach consumers stating that they have leftover material from a recent paving project in the area, and will offer to pave a driveway or parking lot at a discounted price. Victims of this scam are then left with the expense of removing the material and redoing the paving work. Read more about the fraud and get some consumer tips
Victim of fraud? Report it to the Better Business Bureau and the Anti-Fraud Department

Premiers welcome discussion of a Canada Trade Infrastructure Plan
Six premiers welcomed the call for increased planning and execution of sustained investment in national trade infrastructure at a breakfast meeting held July 12 with a group of leading business organizations championing a Canada Trade Infrastructure Plan (CTIP). The organizations include: Canada West Foundation, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Construction Association, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, Civil Infrastructure Council Corp. and Western Canada Roadbuilders & Heavy Construction Association. The group has asked the Council of the Federation to support and lead a collaborative campaign to persuade the federal government in
its 2024-25 budget to include funding for advancing a Canada Trade Infrastructure Plan with the 2024-25 budget. The concept includes governments working with the private sector and national stakeholder associations to set out the building blocks of a CTIP.
